What is LASIK?
LASIK is a popular surgical procedure to correct refractive errors. LASIK can also effectively address astigmatism. LASIK surgery corrects refractive errors of the cornea, which is the front clear part of the eye. If you believe LASIK would be beneficial for you, visit Macias Eye Medical Centers. Our eye doctor will examine your eyes to determine if LASIK is right for you. We have locations in San Bernardino, Fontana, and Riverside CA.
Benefits of LASIK include:
- • Painless procedure
- • No stitches or bandages
- • Doctors can adjust vision changes as you age
- • Correction of refractive error without glasses or contacts
Following LASIK eye surgery, 96% of patients reach their vision goals.
Before having LASIK, you should talk to our eye doctor about whether or not you are a good candidate for this surgery. You may not be a good candidate for LASIK if you are:
- • Pregnant or nursing
- • Younger than 18
- • Taking certain medications
- • Experiencing regular changes in vision
- • Have corneas that are uneven or thin
- • Have glaucoma or dry eyes
- • Have lupus, diabetes, or rheumatoid arthritis
How LASIK is Performed
Our eye doctor will give you drops to numb your eyes. Mild sedatives are also available upon request. An instrument known as a microkeratome will be used on your cornea to make a thin flap. It will then be peeled back while another laser is used to reshape the tissue. The flap will be put back in its normal place before the surgery is completed. The procedure takes about 20 minutes to perform. You should have someone drive you home afterward.
After surgery, you will be given prescription eye drops to prevent infection and inflammation. These drops will also keep your eyes moist. You may experience a slight burning sensation and blurry vision following the procedure, but these side-effects will dissipate quickly.
