How to Prepare For An Eye Exam

How to Prepare For an Eye Exam

Vision changes may often occur gradually. In some cases, the changes come on so slowly that you won't even realize it until your vision is affected. Many diseases in the eye can have no early symptoms. It isn’t until permanent vision loss has occurred that you will notice that you have a problem in the eye. For these reasons, it is essential that you schedule an annual eye appointment with our eye doctors at Macias Eye Medical Centers in either at our three locations, San Bernardino, Riverside, and Fontana. Here is how to prepare for an eye exam at our optometry care.

Make a List

There is certain information that our eye doctors will need to keep on file. We will need a list of medications that you are currently taking. This is to help avoid any medication interactions, if our eye doctors were to prescribe you any medications. So it is best before you leave your house to make a list that includes the name of the drug, the dosage, and how often you take it. You should also include any supplements that you take.

We will also need your health history, such as if you there are certain health conditions in the family that we need to be aware of. Our eye doctors will also need to know the name of your primary care physician just in case they need to contact your doctor. On your list, include the doctor's name and contact information. Bring your insurance information as well.

Glasses and Contacts

During your exam, our eye doctors will want to determine how well you can see with your current prescription strength. Therefore, you should bring your eyeglasses and contacts to your eye exam.

Find a Ride after Your Appointment

During your eye exam, our eye doctors may want to dilate your eyes. This allows them to get a good look at your retina and other parts of the eye. The drops that our eye doctors will use can make it difficult to see close up objects for a few hours and will make your eyes sensitive to the light. Since your vision will be temporary impaired, you should try to find a ride back home so that you don't need to drive yourself when you cannot see well.

Before your eye exam with Macias Eye Medical Centers, you should make sure that you are prepared. Our eye doctors can perform a more thorough exam when they have all of the necessary information. Call our San Bernardino location at 909-885-3933, our Riverside location at 951-359-0500, or our Fontana location at 909-427-8900 to schedule for your eye exam appointment.
